37th Togher Macaoimh go Camping to Fota

Here is something I wrote for the local paper on my recent trip away with the scouts. For those wondering, Macaoimh is the Irish for Cub Scouts. The 37th Togher Macaoimh Cath went on their annual pack holiday from the 26th to the 28th of June to Fota Campsite. Camp this year was well attended with 16 Macaoimh and six leaders heading away for the adventure. This was our first time using the facility in Fota and it was...

Lisbon Treaty: German Court Suspends Ratification

Image via Wikipedia The German Constitutional Court has ruled that the Lisbon Treaty is compatible with the German Constition (or Basic Law). But the Court has still suspended ratification until domestic law in relation to the EU is beefed up. The Court stated according to The Local: “The ratification document of the Federal Republic of Germany may not be adopted until the sufficient legal groundwork for parliamentary participation as foreseen in the constitution has been laid,” “If one wanted...

According to the BBC there are more than 30 different types of chargers for handsets throughout Europe. The 10 companies who have agreed to this measure are: Apple LG Motorola...

“The EU Presidency Is Too Big for Small Nations”

The above is the title of an article in the German Magazine Der Spiegel by Ulrike Guérot. The opening paragraph states the following: The Czech Republic proved that small EU states are not up to running the EU Council Presidency. Leadership on such a scale is simply beyond their means. Nevertheless, Sweden hopes to see the Lisbon Treaty ratified. Then it wants to lay the foundations for a real European foreign policy. I disagree completely that statement and the...

This will take place on the sidelines of the campaign Restore Trust – Rebuild Bridges which was launched by the Anna Lindh Foundation and the...

ECRG Down to the Minimum – Already?

It looks like the European Conservatives and Reformists Group is in a bit of bother today due to decision of Finnish MEP Hannu Takkula to remain in the ALDE grouping according to NewsRoom Finland. Jon Worth thinks “some people in the party must have applied pressure” on him to remain in the ALDE. This leaves the ECRG at the bare minimum of representation with MEPs from 7 member states. On Monday there were talks of other MEPs joining....
