Roche, ELDR Vice President

Image via Wikipedia As well as the appointments made by the European Council last night (more on that later), another recent appointment has come to my knowledge. Dick Roche, the current Minister for Europe, has been made a Vice-President of the European Liberal Democratic and Reform Party (ELDR) . From what I am hearing, a lot of people are not happy about this. Pat Cox, the former President of the ELDR is not a happy man from what I hear,...

Fianna Fail and the Liberals

November 2, 2009

Things aren’t looking so good for the Fianna Fail Party in their new Grouping in the European Parliament. At the last plenary session they caused hassle by abstaining on a vote on a resolution by the ALDE, Green and Socialist groups on media freedoms, this caused the vote to be lost. This has causd huge anger in the ALDE grouping. Reports are also surfacing that the Fianna Fail MEP’s tried to scupper a resolution on Gay Rights emerging from...

Zero Tolerence?

Image via Wikipedia As most of ye are most likely aware there is a debate going on with the Fianna Fail Parliamentry Party on whether or not to lower the blood alcohol level for drink driving from 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood to 50mg. These are often reffered to as 0.8 and 0.5 limits Now the way it is at the moment you can basically have one pint or one unit of alcohol and still pass a...

FG Want to Abolish The Seanad

Image via Wikipedia Last night the at the Fine Gael Presidential Dinner, Enda Kenny announced the following: I believe the Seanad should be abolished and the next Fine Gael Government will put this to the people. I have come to the conclusion that a second house of the Oireachtas can no longer be justified. In abolishing Seanad Eireann, I have examined the outcome of similar decisions in countries such as Sweden, Denmark and New Zealand. Our two-house Oireachtas is...

Update: Cork Democratic Party

I have done searching about the Cork Democratic Party and Suzy of mamanpoulet.com suggested that I contact the Standards in Public Office to see if they are registered for the prupose of the campaign. I got a reply from them today. I wish to confirm that Cork Democratic Party is not registered for the purposes of the Lisbon Referendum Campaign. That means of course they cannot accept donations above the value of €126.97 in an entire year. a “third...

The Cork Democratic Party

Image via Wikipedia A few parties are using the Lisbon II Referendum Campaign to launch themselves. One of these is the Cork Democratic Party. Its not very often you come across a political party in Ireland based around a place, so this is an interesting development in itself. It will be quite interesting to find out what they stand for, because all I know at the moment is that they are opposed to the Lisbon Treaty. I am kind...

Should Ferris Go to Jail

Image via Wikipedia A friend, Dave Maloney has written an interesting note on Facebook, which I couldnt help posting about here. Sinn Féin TD (and convicted gun runner) Martin Ferris aided the released killers (Pearse McCauley and Kevin Walsh) of Garda Jerry McCabe in evading the Gardaí. On RTE’S News at One, Conor Lally the Irish Times Crime Correspondent stated that the van in which Ferris was in, was used to block the road, preventing an unmarked Garda car...

How will “Liberal” Fianna Fail react to its Liberal Allies?

How will “Liberal” Fianna Fail react to its Liberal Allies?

If I was in the god-bothering wing of Fianna Fail I would be very annoyed with the actions of some Fianna Fail’s allies in the European Liberal Democratic and Reform Party. One of the members of this party Brigitta Ohlsson (of the Swedish Liberal People’s Party) has along with a few collegues from the UK Liberal Democrats ( Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP), the Dutch Democrats 66 (Sophie in ‘t Veld) and the Danish Det Radikale Venstre (Lone Dybkjær) have...

Obituary

This was sent to me on facebook. Fianna Fail(ed) – the soldiers of disaster, (formerly the soldiers of destiny), 1926-2009. Savaged to death at local and European elections. Deeply regretted by builders, developers, bankers and cowboys everywhere. Remains reposing in large tent on Galway racecourse. Funeral mass in the Church of St. Bertie the Chancer. Burial afterwards in the Golden Circle cemetery. No flowers please. Brown envelopes only. I wonder is too soon to be true?
