By Stephen

Recieved another letter from Pronsias De Rossa’s (Lab) Office with a letter in french to the commission. Thank to a friend in France (Steven O’Riordan – Thanks hun) I have translated copy here for you! The European Parliament debated in your presence Wednesday June 14 of the increasing violence against homosexuals in Europe and adopted Thursday June 15 a resolution denouncing the new wave of this type of violence. I am shocked to learn that to date the Latvian...

Latvia – me hassling MEP’s

June 21, 2006
By Stephen

Lawmakers in Latvia have defied the European Union and refused to introduce a law banning discrimination at work on sexual orientation grounds. Agreeing to introduce the law on employment discrimination was a condition for Latvia’s accession to the European Union in 2004. But MPs refused to implement it in full after a parliamentary debate where homosexuality was described as a sin. Latvia recently made constitutional changes to prevent same-sex marriages. ‘Degenerate’ slur Latvian politicians voted not to include specific...

Given the failure of the French and Dutch to approve the European Constitution, how far does Europe need a Constitution?

June 8, 2005
By Stephen

I was very disappointed to hear the results of the referenda in France and the Netherlands. I believe that the European Union needs a constitution to codify all the treaties and set out the powers of each of the institutions. Europe needs a constitution. When you look at organisations that have constitutions they are many and diverse. From local sports clubs to countries, constitutions lay out the basic rules and procedures for the running of the organisation. Currently the...

The EU constitution though passage through Europe expected.

The EU constitution though passage through Europe expected.

With referendums coming up in Ireland and the UK, will they be passed? The UK is looking unlikely, but could Ireland have a repeat of the Nice debacle? With 4 countries (Hungary, Slovenia and Lithuania passing the treaty in parliament and Spain by referendum) there are still 21 countries to go with referendums in 8 more countries will it be passed and more importantly do we need an EU constitution??? A new opinion poll today shows that France is...

What more should be done to protect the environment?

March 21, 2005
By Stephen
What more should be done to protect the environment?

For the environment of this planet to be protected international agreements like the Kyoto Protocol should be honoured by the major polluters. Developing countries should be given the technology to develop industry to the level of the developed world without producing as much pollution. In general every country should develop effective and cheap methods of recycling. The price of recycling some products is more expensive and, therefore, less appealing to producers/industry. This is a major obstacle that must be...

Is China a threat, if so how and who does China threaten?

March 21, 2005
By Stephen

I believe China is not a threat in today’s world. I think that China could become a stabliser in world politics by forcing the United States to change for a malign hegemon back to a benign hegemon. The ‘preventive war’ in Iraq could have been avoided if the US was forced to stand down by another great power. The US has held a dominant position in world politics for too long, 60 years this year!! The US holds a...
