Von Rompuy wants a Euro Tax

So the Telegraph have a story on the fact that the new European Council President, Herman Von Rompuy, wants to bring in a new Euro Tax. This is to “bring transparency” to how the EU operates. This hasn’t gone very smoothly for the new European Council Preisdent, and this really is his own fault! He made the announcement at a meeting of the Bildenberg Group, conspriacy theorists would know of this group very well, which isnt the most transparent...

A Strange Reason to Vote Yes

Image by looking4poetry via Flickr At the weekend a leading No Campaigner, Brian Hickey of Coir/Youth Defence, stated on the radio that he wanted Ireland to leave the EU. Aside from the fact that leaving the EU would be economic suicide, the easiest way for Ireland to leave the EU is actually for us to vote Yes to the Lisbon Treaty. Currently there is no way for a country to leave the EU, under the Lisbon Treaty an exit...

Giving up the EU Jargon

Image by arellis49 via Flickr As I mentioned in my Monday’s link post I have more to say on EU Jargon. I am going to try and give up using it and tla‘s (three letter acronyms) for the duration of the Lisbon Treaty Campaign on the blog. Why? Cause it explains nothing! Only people in the know understand the terminology and the acronyms, which won’t work with the people who I am trying to convince who have no ideas...

A Prayer for the European Union

I was going through the Church of Ireland Book of Common Prayer and I came across a prayer for the European Union. Now it is some thing I have never come across before and I thought I would share it, considering it is Sunday. O Lord our heavenly Father, we pray you to guide and direct the member states of the European Union. Draw us closer to one another, and help us to attain justice and freedom, and to...

How will “Liberal” Fianna Fail react to its Liberal Allies?

If I was in the god-bothering wing of Fianna Fail I would be very annoyed with the actions of some Fianna Fail’s allies in the European Liberal Democratic and Reform Party. One of the members of this party Brigitta Ohlsson (of the Swedish Liberal People’s Party) has along with a few collegues from the UK Liberal Democrats ( Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP), the Dutch Democrats 66 (Sophie in ‘t Veld) and the Danish Det Radikale Venstre (Lone Dybkjær) have...

Does this need to be in the Irish Constitution?

Image via Wikipedia As I mentioned earlier today, the Twenty Eight Amendent to the Constitution Bill 2009 was published today. IrishElection has the full text of the amendment but I have a query to the proposed new Article 29.4.4 of Bunreacht na hEireann. It reads as follows: Ireland affirms its commitment to the European Union within  which the member states of that Union work together to promote peace, shared values and the well-being of their peoples. Really does it...

And their off! The Swedes take over the EU

The Swedish Presidency starts today and on the same day their EU Minister Cecilia Malmström starts a blog. The Swedish are really showing the rest of the member states how to engage degitally, thats for sure. I wonder will Spain, who are due to hold the Presidency of the European Council from January next year. She says in her blog that she will use the blog to tell readers about the work of the Swedish presidency and to comment...
