Zero Tolerence?

As most of ye are most likely aware there is a debate going on with the Fianna Fail Parliamentry Party on whether or not to lower the blood alcohol level for drink driving from 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood to 50mg. These are often reffered to as 0.8 and 0.5 limits

Now the way it is at the moment you can basically have one pint or one unit of alcohol and still pass a drink driving test, but if the limit is lowered to 50mg how much can you drink? Half a pint? half a glass of wine? half a standard measure?

Seriously what is the point in this? A few of us were discussing this last night and it was again mentioned on twitter today. We would be better off having a zero tolerance approach. Lets set the limit and zero and completely wipe out the meerest hint of drink driving, or drinking slightly drunk the next morning. Maybe people will be more careful and lessen their intake of alcohol.

I am not sure if a zero tolerance approach is best, but if you are going to reduce to 0.5 you might as have it at zero.
