"Contract for a Better Ireland" Outdoor Media Campaign Launched by Fine Gael

The Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny T.D., today launched his Party’s outdoor media campaign in support of his “Contract for a Better Ireland” which he set out in his Presidential speech at the Fine Gael Árd Fheis at the week-end. He was joined at the launch by Front Bench members Richard Bruton, Olivia Mitchell, Fergus O’Dowd and Dr Liam Twomey and first time Dáil candidates Leo Varadkar (Dublin West) and Lucinda Creighton (Dublin South East).

Commenting on the launch and the Contract for a Better Ireland, Enda Kenny said:

“At the week-end I set out my vision for a better Ireland. It is one based on ending the era of the broken promises and restoring the confidence the public have in their Government to deliver on their pledges. For too long we have seen empty promises reneged on by this Government and we now lie in the wreckage of their cavalier attitude to the public’s interest.

“I am confident that the Contract for a Better Ireland will help restore the public’s faith in the political process. I have set out an agenda, the fundamental building blocks of a better Ireland, that I will deliver on when elected Taoiseach. Only after having delivered on this Contract will I seek re-election as Taoiseach. If I have not, I will not.

“Today’s launch highlights two key components of the Contract – health and crime. There are four different posters highlighting specific commitments from the Contract that will be running over the coming weeks, and they are:

Poster 1 “Free health insurance for all children under 16.”
Poster 2 “2,300 more hospital beds.”
Poster 3 “Tougher sentences, tougher bail for criminals.”
Poster 4 “2,000 more Gardaí on the streets.”

“The campaign will incorporate a mixture of 48 sheet posters, a heavy concentration on 6 sheet posters (bus shelters etc), targeted print media, transport media and online advertising.

“Over the coming weeks the public have a choice to make. Will they continue with the cycle of broken promises and empty rhetoric of the past 10 years, or will they sign up for the Contract for a Better Ireland? I am growing more confident with each passing day that the public will sign up for the Contract, they will vote for accountable politics and they will vote for Fine Gael.”

I think they are good posters they are strong, attract attention and look good.

An nuacht ar an maidin seo!

Northern Ireland goes goes to the polls today in a very decisive election. (CNN, Breakingnews, RTÉ, BBC, France 24) The Polls are open until 10pm tonight with the counting begining tomorrow. 250 candidates are contesting 108 seats. The election is by PRSTV, so transfers are critical for the last seats in each constituency, just like down here in the south!

Trocaire is to challenge the ban on its advertising (Breakingnews). This will be an interesting challenge, first time id say a charity has been forced to pull its ads!

Commonwealth troops serving in the Britsih Armed Forces are to form their own union. (BBC) They seam to be very dissatisfied with their treatment in the army.

The Dáil has passed rushed legislation to outlaw the soliciting children for sex. (RTÉ, Breakingnews). The Bill will go through the Seanad today and then onto the President of signature.

UK MP’s will have a free vote today on house of Lord’s Reform after two days of debate (BBC). There is a range of option on the table. The choices before MPs are: all elected; 80% elected and 20% appointed; 60% elected and 40% appointed; half and half; 40% elected and 60% appointed; 20% elected and 80% appointed; all appointed. Its is expected that a mixture will be the preffered option.

bhuel sinn é!

Young Fine Gael (YFG) have today called on the Government to implement a proactive nationwide campaign modelled on the Northern Ireland ‘Rethink’ campaign addressing the stigma and taboo relating to mental illness, depression and suicide.

“Rethink, which is mainly Government funded, uses a TV advertisement with a high profile celebrity from Coronation Street (‘Steve McDonald’ / Simon Gregson) to show that mental health is an illness like any other and should not be stigmatised”, according to YFG President, Elizabeth Munnelly.

“A high profile campaign here will encourage young people to seek help and advice. One in four Irish people will suffer some form of mental illness during their lifetime. Suicide accounts for 3 out of every 10 deaths in the 15-24 age group and is the most common cause of death in young males. In 2004 11,200 presented at A&E having deliberately self-harmed.

“Every 45 minutes another Irish person attempts suicide. Our Government needs to wake up and realise that young people’s issues are not trivial but serious and need to be tackled urgently,” said Munnelly.

Dáil seats for NI MP’s (Breakingnews) I personnally disagree with them having anything to do with the Dáil as they were elected to Westminster not Dáil Eireann.

France implements its smoking ban (Breakingnews). Woooo! There are now calls for a European wide ban, which i believe would be a goo idea.

Herouxville, Canada has posted on its website what immigrants are not too do (BBC)

Project Hello

Found this on the ACT Responsible Website which has loads of excellent Ad’s for various projects but this one jumped out at me.

This is their Mission

Project Hello aims to build awareness of the world’s growing homeless problem. To create discussion and a platform for solutions. To give homeless individuals a name, and in the process, encourage others to treat them with dignity, respect, and compassion. To use our mass communication and problem-solving skills for the forces of good. And to inspire and assist others in creating more selfless, random acts of kindness.

Really cool project so check it out at
