37th Togher Macaoimh go Camping to Fota

img_0109Here is something I wrote for the local paper on my recent trip away with the scouts. For those wondering, Macaoimh is the Irish for Cub Scouts.

The 37th Togher Macaoimh Cath went on their annual pack holiday from
the 26th to the 28th of June to Fota Campsite. Camp this year was well
attended with 16 Macaoimh and six leaders heading away for the
adventure. This was our first time using the facility in Fota and it
was also our first cath holiday where some Macaoimh spent it sleeping
under canvass.

We arrived on Friday evening and we got set up, pitching tents and
putting away the food and allocating the beds to those staying in the
house. We were lucky with the weather on Friday evening so the tents
were erected quickly with plenty of help from the Macaoimh.

Saturday was a glorious day which saw us visiting Fota Wildlife Park.
There we got to see all the animals, including the Siamang Monkeys,
who were the ones that woke us up early and not the Macaoimh! After
the visit to the Wildlife Park we had our annual water fight which saw
nearly everyone soaked to the bone!
We ended the day with a traditional Scout Campfire in the secluded
campfire circle in the woods, which gave it a great atmosphere.

Sunday was mix of a day weather wise so it was impossible to get the
tents down dry. We had time in the morning for a sports competition
which saw plenty of medals given out and was enjoyed by everyone.

After lunch we packed up and cleaned up and headed for home, exhausted
but happy and looking forward to getting back to scouting next year. A
big thanks to the staff of Fota Campsite for the excellent facilities.
Who knows we could be back there next year!

Wrecked = Little or no blogging

So this week I seemed to be untterly exhausted when I get in the door and onto “liam” I am falling asleep.

My canvassing schedule is getting busier with me out four nights a week at the moment, I get Tuesdays off for Scouting!

So far I am canvassing for:

  • Emmet O’Halloran (South Central): Mondays and Thursdays
  • Cllr. John Buttimer (South West): Wednesdays
  • Cllr. Laura McGonigle (South East): This Friday
  • Cllr. Brian Birmingham (South West): Next Friday

That covers only the next two weeks. Have another four weeks to go after that! So staying in bed on Thursday!

Hopefully blogging will return to normalish soon. I will try!
