As we are quickly approaching a General Election in the Republic. As with recent elections I will be listing the candidates standing for election across Cork City and County. This post will be updated as candidates announce their intentions
First, we will look at Cork North Central where a recent by-election will see many of the same candidates running again.
In 2016 the following were elected
Billy Kelleher – Fianna Fail
Mick Barry – Solidarity – People Before Profit
Jonathan O’Brien – Sinn Fein
Dara Murphy – Fine Gael
Since the election in 2016, Billy Kelleher was elected as an MEP for Ireland South, Dara Murphy resigned as a TD to take up a post in the European Commission and Jonathan O’Brien announced he retirement as a TD. This leaves Mick Barry as the only sitting TD from 2016 running in this constituency. He will be joined by Padraig O’Sullivan of Fianna Fail who was elected at the recent bye-election to the seat left vacant by Billy Kelleher. It remains a four seat constituency.

This is the first of two posts listing the candidates for the Cork City Council for May’s local elections.
With the new boundary extension, the number of Local Electoral Area’s on the Northside have been reduced from three to two, Cork North East and Cork North West. Both LEA’s have 6 seats. These areas include areas brought into the city including Glanmire and Blarney.
Two councillors from the Northside of the City will be stepping down at this election, one from each LEA
On the 24th of May Ireland will go to the polls to elect 13 MEP’s to the European Parliament. This is an increase of 2 seats on the 2014 elections due to the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union.
These seats will be distributed across the three constituencies as follows

Midlands – Northwest – 4 seats (no change)
South – 5 seats (+1)
Four sitting MEPS have confirmed that they will be stepping down at this election
Nessa Childers – Independent (Dublin)
Brian Crowley – Fianna Fail (South)
Brain Hayes – Fine Gael (Dublin)
Markian Harkin – Independent (Midlands-NorthWest)
The following are the candidates selected to run in each constituency.
